Im posting this in reference to a story on the 11pm news ( 10-12-09) where American citizens are being made to remove their American flags from display, in case they offend their ethnic community.
My husband and I feel this is a gross miscarriage of the civil rights of the American people and a blight against the Constitution.
People who come here from other countries, especially the poorer ethnic ones should be glad to be here and embrace the rights and freedoms Americans have enjoyed for centuries. We dont expect them to give up their religious beliefs. but they need to accept that we like to display our flag and if it is offensive to them to see it flying then they need not to be here.
I am an Australian citizen married to an American citizen and I proudly embrace my adoptive country and state over the last 10 years. Since my arrival here in 1998 we have flown both the American and Australian falg in our front yard and have had many compliments from people passing by. Many who actually stop and ask about the Aussie flag as some have never seen it before and were curious to its origin.,In 10 years we have never had a negative remark, and we have several families in our street who are not American born.
Every US household should be allowed the right to display their countrys flag with out fear of reprisal or the threat of being evicted form their rented homes.
Posted is a photo of our two flags flying proudly and we both feel a great deal of pride when we drive down our street and see them flowing in the wind. Only time they are'nt out is in extreme winter conditions.
