I'm not submitting a story per se. I am a retired Coast Guard C-130 aircrewman. The C-130 crash with the Marine helicopter was the C-130 CG-1705. If you check your recent news footage, you'll find the 1705 providing support to American Samoans during the recent tsunami. Of Oregon interest, look at your footage of the bird rescue out of Astoria earlier this week and you will see the 1705 once again. I flew in her for many years out of Kodiak, AK and out of Sacramento. She was a great airplane. I'm not looking for anything for myself, just alerting you to footage you already have that you might tie in to a story. The '05 was an outstanding airplane and she definitely has an Oregon connection. After so many years with her, I'm glad she died so nobly rather than being relegated, in time, to the boneyard. At the beginning of the week, she was rescuing soiled birds in Astoria. Yesterday, her last, she was looking for people in trouble. And so was the crew that trusted her.
