A Tsunami watch is in effect (mildly) for the PNW coastline today, after last night's deadly Chilean Earthquake. Rip tides were extremely strong today, visible to the naked eye, while normal waves were higher than normal. At one point the rip was so strong that a person falling in would be washed directly out to sea, while wave action with several feet went the opposite direction (image 3).
Beautiful weather prevailed along the central coastline, wind was light, air temp was mild, and rain periodically fell mixing with the sea mists. (image 2).
After many failed attempts to catch the illuminated lens action of the Heceta Lighthouse, I finally got my timing down to a tee. (Image 1) Priceless
