On Saturday, May 1st my husband and I were lucky enough to notice the sky had a special surprise for us. It looked like 50 jets had left their trails in equally spaced ribbons across the sky. Creating a beautiful vision of ocean waves. It was spectacular!
Wave clouds are created by atmospheric internal waves as stable air flows over a mountain range. In our case we believe that the clouds formed coming over the coast range and were visible at Fern Ridge.
Between my husband and myself we have over 100 years of watching the sky and yet this was the first wave cloud either of us have ever seen. So for those of you that enjoy laying back and daydreaming as you name those clouds, you to may one day be astonished by your very own wave cloud. But be aware don't blink or it just may blow away!
