This gull is now raising her third brood on my neighbor's roof here on Alsea Bay in Waldport. These 3 chicks hatched late last week. Two years ago, she successfully raised 2 chicks and a single chick last year.
Mama Gull and her mate have established a "no-fly zone" over the roof-top and chase off all birds, including bald eagles, ravens, and crows! They also have a verbal warning system for the chicks to run and hide, Later this summer, we have a front row seat for "flight training" which is very entertaining!
This gull has stayed here through the last two winters, facing into some terrific storms from her rooftop home. We assume it's to protect her nest site.
